Being Mindful With Only a Few Minutes

Updated: Mar 29, 2021

Being mindful is a great way to feel grounded, calm, connected and safe. Some may feel they are not ready for mindfulness activities like meditation and if this is you, there are some great ways to incorporate being mindful into your day even when you do not have a lot of time.

Consider starting each day with mindful breathing before you even get out of bed. This is great way to start the day feeling calm instead of rushing out of bed. You can also choose one activity that you do every day and commit to doing it mindfully. For example, if you have a coffee or tea in the morning, try putting down your phone and enjoying the taste and warmth of what you are drinking, even if only for a few moments. This can be a great way to experience the activity of what you are doing and allows the focus to be on just one thing. Perhaps you could have a mindful conversation with someone and truly take the time to listen. The intention here is to focus on giving your time and attention to someone you care about. Spend some time outside and bonus, your cortisol levels will drop!

Whatever mindful activity you choose does not really matter. In truth, it's the practice of being mindful and turning our attention to a single focus that can help support a sense of calm.
